ADHD & Women

Understanding ADHD in Women – Tailored Care and Support

ADHD manifests differently in women, often leading to delayed diagnosis and unique challenges, especially during hormonal transitions like perimenopause and menopause. Fluctuating oestrogen levels during these phases can exacerbate ADHD symptoms, affecting attention, mood, and cognitive functions. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) may help alleviate some of these symptoms by stabilising hormone levels, potentially improving concentration and reducing emotional volatility.

Common Symptoms in Women:

  • Internalised symptoms such as daydreaming or emotional sensitivity.

  • Increased risk of anxiety or depression, often linked to ADHD challenges.

  • Difficulties balancing work, personal, and family responsibilities.

  • Worsening of ADHD symptoms during perimenopause and menopause due to hormonal fluctuations.

Our Approach:

  • Holistic Assessments: We adopt a comprehensive approach to understand how ADHD uniquely affects you, considering hormonal changes and their impact on your symptoms.

  • Personalised Treatment Plans: Our tailored support includes psychological therapy, medication, and guidance on managing hormonal influences, focusing on building confidence and resilience.

  • Empowerment and Education: We provide knowledge and tools to help you understand and manage ADHD's impact on your life, especially during hormonal transitions.

By addressing the interplay between ADHD and hormonal changes, we aim to support women in navigating these challenges with personalised, empathetic care.

The test is designed to see if you have symptoms that are consistent with ADHD. It may help you decide whether you feel it would be beneficial to speak with one of our doctors and/or have an assessment.
